Chapter Seventeen

Skye/Killian

Skye

After my third day of teaching yoga outside in the park, I stayed behind to enjoy the warmth of the sun and crispness in the air. I hadn’t been outside much since the fire, so I stayed for a while to sit back and enjoy the peace. It was invigorating to breathe in the fresh air and feel the grass beneath my feet.

A chill ran down my spine, disturbing my tranquility, and I couldn’t shake the feeling of someone watching me. It felt nothing like when Killian’s eyes were on me. Whoever this was made my stomach churn. I glanced around but saw no one it could be.

Then my phone rang. It was a blocked number, but I answered it in case it was Killian calling me from a secret phone. The second I answered, I knew it was a mistake. It was Paul, and I could tell he was high just from his voice. I’d bet anything he was calling because he knew I had protection who was making sure he couldn’t get anywhere near me.

“You can hide behind your scary boyfriend all you want, Skye,” he said in a slow, slurred drawl. “I will find a way to get you, because you belong to me.”

“That won’t happen, Paul.” My voice was venomous from the blood-boiling anger inside me. “You have no fucking claim on me. I do not belong to you, and I regret ever being with you.”

“You’ll regret talking to me that way, that’s for sure,” he said. “You think they can protect you in a park?” His voice turned weak and shaky at the end, which proved how messed up he was.

“What makes you think you can get to me? You can’t even stay awake long enough to finish threatening me. Go back to your hole, and leave me the fuck alone, and you better hope Killian doesn’t find you.”

I hung up before he could respond, and before I could put my phone back in my bag, Leo stopped in front of me.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, it was Paul. He’s somewhere around here. He said something about me being in a park, so he must be here.”

Leo’s expression hardened, and he immediately went into action mode. “We need to get you out of here.” He walked me back to where Neil waited, and after telling him to take me straight to Killian’s, he returned to the park to search the area with the other guards.

I spent the entire ride seething with anger. For the first time in my life, I didn’t push aside the fury, I let it boil. Paul had no right to bully me into being with him. How dare he call and threaten me when I was finally moving on and getting over what he’d done to me. I was done with him, and he needed to leave me alone.

When we got back to Killian’s, Neil escorted me upstairs. As graciously as I could, I told him how silly it was for him to go out of his way like that.
